Domestic Assessment

NACGSA

The National Corporate Governance and Sustainability Awards (NACGSA) is a national recognition that highlights corporate governance and sustainability excellence among public listed companies in Malaysia.

Organised by MSWG, the awards are based on a robust and transparent assessment methodology endorsed by the Corporate Governance Council. This methodology evaluates companies across key dimensions, including board leadership, shareholder rights, disclosure practices, sustainability performance, and stakeholder engagement.

NACGSA aims to raise the bar for corporate accountability by identifying and celebrating companies that demonstrate exemplary practices and leadership in responsible business conduct. The award serves not only as a recognition of achievement but also as a benchmark for continuous improvement and investor confidence.

Winners are selected through a rigorous, data-driven evaluation process that reflects both regulatory expectations and market best practices.

NACGSA 2024

Held at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, the awards ceremony brought together key stakeholders from across the capital market, including regulators, institutional investors, corporate leaders, and governance advocates, to celebrate companies that have demonstrated exemplary leadership in governance and sustainable business practices.

A total of 50 Malaysian public listed companies were ranked and recognised based on a comprehensive and independent assessment, underpinned by a rigorous methodology endorsed by the Corporate Governance Council.

The top honour was awarded to Malayan Banking Berhad, which emerged as the overall highest-ranked public listed company in terms of governance and sustainability performance. In addition to the overall rankings, top-performing companies within each sector were also recognised.

NACGSA 2025 will be held in December 2025.

Regional Assessment

ASEAN CG Scorecard

The ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) is a regional initiative developed by the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aimed at enhancing corporate governance standards and practices across ASEAN public-listed companies.

The Scorecard offers a comprehensive benchmarking framework grounded in international best practices, including the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. It enables meaningful comparisons across ASEAN markets and promotes greater transparency, accountability, and investor confidence in the region.

MSWG serves as the official domestic ranking body (DRB) for Malaysia, assessing selected Malaysian PLCs annually against the ACGS methodology. The results not only highlight top-performing companies but also identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

ASEAN CGCA 2025

The ASEAN Corporate Governance Conference and Awards (ASEAN CGCA) is a flagship regional event that brings together corporate governance and sustainability leaders from across Southeast Asia. Organised by MSWG, the event was held in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and the Securities Commission Malaysia’s role as Chair of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF).

The conference featured high-level dialogues with regulators, institutional investors, corporate leaders, and board professionals, addressing emerging challenges in governance and sustainability. Topics included board accountability, ESG integration, inclusive capitalism, and cross-border stewardship.

The awards segment honoured the Top 50 ASEAN public-listed companies, as well as the Top 5 companies from each ASEAN member state, based on ACGS. These recognitions highlighted companies that demonstrated consistent leadership, robust governance frameworks, and forward-looking sustainability practices.
